What we meant to leave behind.

The till is quiet. The work was never the building. It was neighbours who could keep using the tools their life already ran on.

Lakeside Digital spent more than twenty years in the Interlake so a farm, a shop, a church office, or a kitchen table did not have to wait on the city. Andrew Kalteck, Charles Plett, and Roger Plett started that in 2002 because the community needed it. LakeNet grew out of the same instinct — a way for the lake towns to get online when the wire had not arrived yet. lakenet.ca still points here.

Retail closed in 2026. What we hope remains is simpler than a store: people who were treated straight, machines that lasted longer than they were supposed to, and a name that still means someone local cared whether you could get your week done.

This site is the last useful thing we can put on the door. A little help when something breaks. A pointer toward the next honest purchase. A board for vendors worth standing beside. If the community keeps using it, the legacy is working.
